Red Acre Farm

PHOTOGRAPHY   |   PERSONAL WORK

Cedar City, Utah

Sara was fourteen when she planted her first crops on two acres of high desert in southern Utah. I've returned several times since to photograph the farm she started — an ongoing project I plan to continue.

When I first photographed the farm, Sara's father was still part of daily life there. He passed away not long after, yet Sara kept building it with her mother Symbria at her side. The farm became a CSA early on, and now in her twenties, Sara runs it as a fully biodynamic operation on the same two acres — red soil at 5,900 feet, high desert sun. She and Symbria feed their community, teach regenerative farming, and advocate at the state level to protect the land, animals, and small farmers alike.
